How to find your tire size

It's three numbers printed on every tire on your car. Two easy places to find them; pick whichever's closer.

On the tire sidewall

Check the side of any tire on your car: the size is printed right into the rubber.

On the driver's door jamb

Open the driver's door and look at the sticker on the body frame.

If the two disagree, look at the wheel size (the "R17" part, the last two digits). Same wheel size? Trust the door-jamb placard. Different wheel size? A previous owner put aftermarket wheels on, so trust what's actually on the tire today.

What the numbers mean

Three numbers. That's the whole code.

It's just three numbers. Here's what each one is telling you.

Take the example 225/65R17:

225
Width

How wide the tire is, in millimetres. The first number.

65
Height ratio

How tall the tire is. The middle number.

R17
Wheel size

The wheel diameter in inches. The "R" just means radial. Ignore it.
